About Ronato Alcano

Alcano’s recognition in the Philippines begin with his performance at the 2000 Rising Stars Tournament. By the finals, he was highly favored to win the title, yet in the final match (a race to 13), Alcano lost to Edgar Acaba by just a rack short, 13-12. Despite having a 12-7 advantage, Alcano missed while only three balls away. Acaba then returned to the table and won the needed 6 racks in a row to win the match and the title.

In 2002, as other Philippine players started to take the spotlight (Efren Reyes won ¥20,000,000 in Tokyo, Alcano began to make a name for himself, and began competing in major events in the US. He won five tournaments in the Joss Tour and was awarded[attribution needed] Rookie of the Year for 2002.

Alcano turned back to the East, for the 2005 WPA Asian Nine-ball Tour, winning the Manila tournament (11-6 versus Yang Ching-shun), and qualifying for the world championship.

vAlcano was the unexpected victor at the 2006 WPA Men’s World Nine-ball Championship, held in the Philippines, where he defeated German Ralf Souquet in the final by 17 racks to 11. He thus became the second Filipino (excluding 2004 winner Alex Pagulayan, as he represented Canada at that time) to become World Champion in this event after Efren Reyes won the title in 1999. In the November 2006 tournament, Alcano had been on the brink of elimination in group play before taking advantage of a soft break. He won just 1 of 3 group matches and scraped through as the 64th and final seed. Alcano then defeated local favorite Reyes and defending champion Wu Chia-ching in the knockout stages, proceeding to the final. For winning the tournament, Alcano won US$100,000 which is the largest first prize ever won in the world nine-ball championship.

In 2007, Alcano won the WPA World Eight-ball Championship by defeating his compatriot Dennis Orcollo in the final match 11-8.

About Efren Reyes

Reyes is a living legend in his home country of the Philippines where he is one of their highest profile sportsmen.

His 1999 World Championship victory live on TV elevated pool into the major league and saw Reyes become a national celebrity, starring in TV adverts for San Miguel Beer and McDonalds among others.

Now 50 years old, Reyes is still one of the most feared player in the world and a regular winner in tournament play.

His near total domination of the San Miguel Asian Tour this year showed that there is plenty of life in the old dog yet.

About Apl De Ap

Allan is one of the founding members of the International Hip-Hop Band “Black Eyed Peas”. He was born to a Filipino mother and an African-American father whom he never met.

He grew up in a poor but loving family situated in the town of Angeles, Pampanga. At a young and tender age of fourteen, Allan’s mom and stepfather allowed him, with his consent, to be adopted by a kind-hearted American who will then take him to the U.S. to have a promising future. Leaving his family behind really hurt him so much.

Allan believes that he would be better off living in a different country, in order for him to provide his family with all the pleasures that life has to offer.

During his eight-grade being a student, he began performing around Los Angeles district as Atban Klann with his friend Will.I.Am way back in 1989.

Allan poured his heart into singing and dancing for he is good at it. To avoid sadness and viciousness, Mr. Pineda spent most of his time composing some songs.

He originally composed the song “Where is the Love,” which is included in their latest album, dedicated to his brother who passed away. Second to that he wrote “The Apl Song” which was a mix of Tagalog and English, the lyrics were about his step father and his life while he was still in the Philippines.

His life was never easy. He experienced so much sadness, longing to be with his family back in the Philippines but despite all these, he survived and tried moving on so he did.

Truly, there’s a rainbow always after the rain. After all that he went through his name is now known in the music industry and his star continuously shines in Los Angeles California. Their group is widely known as “Black Eyed Peas” and presently popular and enjoying sharing their talents around the world.

About Alex Pagulayan

Alex Pagulayan’s greatest achievement is when he won the 2004 World Pool Championshipes held in Taiwan. After the heartbreak of falling at the final hurdle at Cardiff in 2003, Filipino-Canadian Alex Pagulayan went one better in July as he lifted the 2004 World Pool Championship after a superb battle with underdog Pei-wei Chang.

‘The Lion’ is a welcome addition to any pool tournament and his celebration dance after sinking the winning 9-ball in Taipei had to be seen to be believed!

As much a Filipino as a Canadian, Pagulayan spent the immediate aftermath of his victory soaking up his celebrity status in Manila with meetings with the President, chat shows and even a walk on part in a top-rated comedy show.

Having broken his ‘Majors’ duck, Pagulayan can now build on his success and establish himself as one of the modern greats – he certainly has the talent.

About Tia Carrere

Tia Carrere was born on January, 2nd 1967. She was discovered in true Hollywood fashion. While shopping in a grocery store, she was approached by an elderly couple whose son was about to start shooting a coming-of-age film called “Aloha summer” and needed a young actress for the starring role. Tia landed that role, put the money in her pocket, and headed for Los Angeles.

She did a brief stint as a print and commercial model and, a few months later, landed a regular role on the daytime soap ‘General Hospital’. After ‘General Hospital’ her repertoire has included variety of starring roles.
