About Efren Reyes
Reyes is a living legend in his home country of the Philippines where he is one of their highest profile sportsmen.
His 1999 World Championship victory live on TV elevated pool into the major league and saw Reyes become a national celebrity, starring in TV adverts for San Miguel Beer and McDonalds among others.
Now 50 years old, Reyes is still one of the most feared player in the world and a regular winner in tournament play.
His near total domination of the San Miguel Asian Tour this year showed that there is plenty of life in the old dog yet.
Despite his success, Reyes remains as modest as ever and is a highly popular figure among his fellow professionals – over 50 percent of the competitors at July’s World Pool Championship listed Reyes as their favourite player.
